Clause 6.2.3.2: Prepare for business or mission analysis
Preparation has four tasks.
What clause 6.2.3.2 asks
Preparation has four tasks. Review the problems and opportunities already identified in the organization strategy against its goals. Define the analysis strategy, including the approach, milestones, resources and the method for identifying the problem and the solution classes. Identify the enabling systems or services the analysis needs, such as business data, market analysis or benchmarking. Obtain access to them. The strategy is what makes the analysis repeatable rather than a series of meetings.
Why it matters
The clause is about setting up the work, and it is where most analyses quietly fail. If the strategy does not say how the problem space will be bounded, the team will drift into solution design. If access to the data is assumed rather than arranged, the analysis will rest on opinion.
No clause level change is public for this unit; the DIS keeps the title and scope, and the requirement text is not released.
What good looks like
Write a two-page analysis plan: questions, sources, participants, milestones, the decision to be made and the date. Name the data owner for each source. Get the plan accepted by the sponsor before the first workshop.
Evidence an assessor asks for
The assessor will ask who owned the analysis and what decision it was meant to support. A plan with no decision date is an open-ended study.
- Analysis plan The questions, approach, milestones, resources and decision date
- Strategy review The organization goals and the problems or opportunities already recorded against them
- Enabling systems list The data, tools and services needed, with the owner and the access date
- Sponsor acceptance A dated acceptance of the plan and the decision it will support
Where it commonly fails
- A workshop series with no stated decision, which becomes a permanent discussion
- Market data used without a source or a date
- The sponsor sees the plan after the analysis is finished
What to do before the revision
Put the decision question at the top of the plan in one sentence. If it cannot be written in one sentence, the analysis is not ready to start.
