Clause 6.6.2.3.3: Perform information management

Current editionISO/IEC/IEEE 29148:2018, Clause 6.6.2.3.3Edition 3 at DIS ballotNo public change recorded

The process obtains, develops or transforms the identified information items.

What clause 6.6.2.3.3 asks

The process obtains, develops or transforms the identified information items. As the operational concept and the requirement specifications are created and baselined, they are provided to the authorities and roles designated for information management. When a requirement changes and a new baseline is created, the revised items are provided as well. The requirements information is managed under the organization's information management process.

Why it matters

The clause is about the handover to the people who keep the record. A specification that exists only in the author's tool is not managed information. The process covers the revised item as well as the first issue, which is where many projects stop.

In the public record

No clause level change is public for this unit; the DIS keeps the title and scope, and the requirement text is not released.

What good looks like

Name the authority for each information item and the repository it lives in. Record the issue and the revision in the same index. Confirm that the people who need the item can retrieve it, not only that it exists.

Evidence an assessor asks for

The assessor will ask for the current version and the previous one. A repository that keeps only the latest cannot show the baseline history.

  • Information item index Each item, its owner, its repository, its version and its retention rule
  • Issue record The first issue and each revision, with the date and the authority
  • Access check A confirmation that the designated readers can retrieve the current version
  • Retention rule The retention and disposal rule for each item

Where it commonly fails

  • The specification is in a tool that the quality function cannot access
  • Only the first issue is recorded, with revisions tracked informally
  • The retention rule is unknown, so items are deleted when a project closes

What to do before the revision

Keep the index in the same repository as the items. An index that lives elsewhere drifts within a month.
