Annex C: Annex C: tailoring
Annex C is the normative tailoring process for information items.
What annex C asks
Annex C is the normative tailoring process for information items. When a project needs a set of information items that does not qualify for full conformance, it selects or modifies the clauses of this document using the process in Annex C. The tailored text is declared, and conformance is judged against the declared text using the tailoring outcomes as evidence. The process provisions themselves are not tailored here; they are tailored under 15288 or 12207.
Annex C is normative. It sets the tailoring process for information items. The process provisions themselves are tailored under 15288 or 12207.
Why it matters
Tailoring is a controlled reduction with a recorded reason. It is not a way to avoid the parts of the content that are inconvenient. The declaration is the key: a reader has to be able to see what was changed and why, and the evidence has to match the declared text.
No clause level change is public for this unit; the DIS keeps the title and scope, and the requirement text is not released.
What good looks like
Record each clause, the change, the reason and the approver. Keep the original clause beside the tailored one. Revisit the declaration when the project scope or the edition changes.
Evidence an assessor asks for
The assessor will compare the declared text with the clause it replaced. An unexplained exclusion is the finding.
- Tailoring table The clause, the change, the reason and the approver
- Declared text The tailored information item text, versioned and referenced from the conformance statement
- Tailoring outcomes The Annex C outcomes that justify each change
- Review record The dated review of the tailored set against the project need
Where it commonly fails
- Clauses are dropped to fit a template, with no declaration
- The tailoring table lists a reason as not applicable, with no analysis
- The declared text is not versioned, so the assessment cannot tell which version was used
What to do before the revision
Write the tailoring table before the information item, not after. It prevents the template from deciding the content by default.
